What’s in a name?
It’s how we identify things, living or non-living, and it’s how we identify people. After the Creator, Almighty YAH, made all living creatures, including humans, He gave Adam his first job! What a privilege Adam had, as YAH let him name the living creatures!
‘And from the ground יהוה Alahym formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called each living being, that was its name.’
This means Adam is the one who named the serpent.
‘So the man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field…’
The Serpent’s Spell
The serpent later shows up in Genesis 3, with one goal in mind: to cause Adam and his newfound love, Ḥawwah (Eve), to lose their salvation, their crown, and their seal! They lost the privileges they had in the Garden of Eden.
According to the Hebrew text, the serpent’s name is nâchâsh – a name directly linked to sorcery.
The Strong’s Concordance gives us the root meaning of this word: H5175 | נָחָשׁ | nâchâsh | naw-khawsh’ | From H5172; a snake (from its hiss): – serpent (Total KJV occurrences: 31)
When we look at the root word that this one comes from, we see that the snake’s hiss is symbolic of whispering a magic spell. Explore H5172 | נָחַשׁ | nâchash | naw-khash’ | A primitive root; properly to hiss, that is, whisper a (magic) spell; generally to prognosticate: – X certainly, divine, enchanter, (use) X enchantment, learn by experience, X indeed, diligently observe. (Total KJV occurrences: 11)
The serpent (Naḥash) whispered in the ears of Ḥawwah and got her to disobey the instructions which YAHUAH gave Adam. She knew very well that she should have obeyed what YAH said. However, she allowed herself to fall under the spell of the serpent. With a sinister plan in mind, Satan positioned himself on the very tree that he knew Adam and Eve were not to eat from. He used the wife to lure the husband to follow him, rather than obey YAHUAH.
This is exactly the same strategy the enemy will use in the last days to seduce YAH’s people to receive the Mark of the Beast. Remember, Satan (the serpent of old) is not interested in those who he already has under his control. His true targets are the people of the living YAH. This means that he will go to any lengths to get them to disobey YAH. Just as he did with Adam and Eve, he will challenge the very Word of YAH. He will question: “Is it true that Alahym has said…“
‘And the naḥash was more crafty than all the lives of the field which יהוה Alahym had made, and he said to the woman, “Is it true that Alahym has said, ‘Do not eat of every tree of the garden’?”’
The Mark of the Beast is a scheme that the enemy had devised to get YAH’s people to disobey the first and greatest command:
‘“And you shall love יהוה your Alahym with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might.’
Obedience in Love
YAH elaborated this command in the first four of the ten commands. Note the very first thing that YAH did when He delivered these SPOKEN WORDS. He identified Himself.
‘And Alahym spoke all these Words, saying, “I am יהוה your ALahym, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of slavery.
Then, he went on to deliver the 10 Words, starting with these four:
1 – COMMAND AGAINST SERVING OTHER MIGHTY ONES
“You have no other mighty ones against My face.
2 – COMMAND AGAINST IDOLATROUS IMAGES
“You do not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of that which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth, you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Alahym am a jealous AL, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving-commitment to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My commands.
3 – COMMAND REGARDING THE NAME
“You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Alahym to naught, for יהוה does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.
4 – COMMAND REGARDING THE SABBATH
“Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart. “Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of יהוה your Alahym. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
“For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore יהוה blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart.’
We show that we love our Father in heaven when we guard His commands. Conversely, we show our love for YAH by NOT obeying the whisperings and demands of the serpent.
The Final Test
The first test of humanity’s love happened in the Garden of Eden. However, the final test will soon come when the enemy tries to enforce the Mark of the Beast. Here is the serpent’s ultimate agenda! He wants people to worship him instead of YAH. This time, he will use lying signs and wonders! He will use spells. Remember, this is the nature of the serpent: Naḥash. Sorcery is his prime strategy to deceive and lead people astray.
1 – HE WILL USE DECEPTION
‘And he leads astray those dwelling on the earth because of those signs which he was given to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword, yet lived.
2 – HE WILL USE DEATH THREATS
And there was given to him to give spirit to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause to be killed as many as would not worship the image of the beast.
3 – HE WILL TRY TO PLACE HIS NAME ON EVERYONE, AS A SIGN OF HIS OWNERSHIP
And he causes all, both small and great, and rich and poor, and free and slave, to be given a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads, and that no one should be able to buy or sell except he that has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
4 – HE HAS SPECIFIC NUMBER ASSOCIATED WITH HIS NAME: 666
Here is the wisdom! He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred and sixty six.’
The Faithful Few
The Scripture says that the serpent leads the whole world astray.
‘And the great dragon was thrown out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who leads all the world astray. He was thrown to the earth, and his messengers were thrown out with him.’
This makes it evident that the vast majority of people will be led astray, even those who say they know YAH, love Him, and are obeying His Word. Remember that one of Satan’s most common strategies is to mix the Word of YAH with words He did not say. This is actually how he deceived Ḥawwah. He corrupted the Word, twisted the truth, and made it seem as if there was more to it than what YAH said.
Today, there are many ways in which Satan is using the same strategy. One of the devices is using writings and traditions of men. This includes promoting books claiming to be Scripture, which are really not YAH’s Word. So, we truly need to be on our guard even now!
Let’s revisit the text in Genesis and examine the enemy’s strategy:
1 – HE USED DECEPTION AND CRAFTINESS AND CHALLENGED THE WORD OF YAH
‘And the naḥash was more crafty than all the lives of the field which יהוה Alahym had made, and he said to the woman, “Is it true that Alahym has said, ‘Do not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 – HE PERVERTED THE TRUTH ABOUT DEATH
And the woman said to the naḥash, “We are to eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Alahym has said, ‘Do not eat of it, nor touch it, lest you die.’ ” And the naḥash said to the woman, “You shall certainly not die…”
3 – HE PUSHED HIS LIES AS TRUTH
For Alahym knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like Alahym, knowing good and evil.”’
Sadly, Eve swallowed the lies. Furthermore, she got her husband to follow her rather than obey YAHUAH.
However, in the end, there will be a remnant who stands for YAH’s trust: the Lamb’s Bride!
They will be the 144,000 from the 12 tribes, and a countless multitude from the 70 nations of the world! These will not be swayed by the enemy’s tactics but stand firm with the SEAL OF YAH – which is His Name!
There is one sure truth: No one who has the seal of YAH can possibly receive the Mark of the Beast. No one can have both the Mark of the Beast and the Seal of YAH! The former signals ownership by Satan, but the latter is evidence of YAH’s ownership.
Be warned! The enemy will do everything in his power to cause you not to get sealed or to lose the Set-Apart Spirit by whom we are sealed for the day of redemption.
Fix Your Eyes of Messiah
Messiah YAHUSHUA paid the ultimate price to undo what the serpent did in the Garden of Eden, when he brought sin into this world, along with spiritual and physical death. YAH knew that Satan would try to steal our crown, so he already had a solution!
‘And I put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel.”’
Messiah will claim the victory for us in the end, if we remain faithful.
‘We too, then, having so great a cloud of witnesses all around us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race set before us, looking to the Prince and Perfecter of our belief, יהושע, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the stake, having despised the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of Alahym.’
Iḇ`rim (Hebrews) 12:1-2
Our deliverance in Messiah is sure!
‘And I heard a loud voice saying in the heaven, “Now have come the deliverance and the power and the reign of our Alahym and the authority of His Messiah, for the accuser of our brothers, who accused them before our Alahym day and night, has been thrown down. “And they overcame him because of the Blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their witness, and they did not love their lives to the death.’
